The Breakfast Club is an American feature film of the dramatic comedy genre. It was written and directed by John Hughes and produced by Universal Pictures. It was released theatrically in the United States on February 15th, 1985. The premise of the film centers around five high school students who all must submit to a day-long Saturday detention for various offenses. Each of them hails from a different walk of life, and they must come to develop an appreciation for one another, while also discovering things about themselves. The film stars Emilio Estevez as football star Andy Clark, Paul Gleason as school principal Richard Vernon, Anthony Michael Hall as nerdy Brian Johnson, John Kapelos as the janitor Carl, Judd Nelson as bad-boy John Bender, Molly Ringwald as prudish Claire Standish and Ally Sheedy as social misfit Allison Reynolds.
