A stairlift is an electronic conveyance designed to assist people with limited mobility with ascending and descending flights of stairs. It is basically a chair that is attached to a specially designed railing on a staircase that contains an activation toggle that allows the person sitting in it to move up a flight of steps and back down again.
The reliability of such devices seems to be called into question when it comes to its usage in movies. A pack of ambitious gremlins may sabotage such a device, sending it shooting through the roof of a home, ultimately killing its occupant. [1]
Demons are also a bit prankish when it comes to these things. In one case, a handicapped girl named Janice tried to use one to escape from an evil presence. The demon used its power to manipulate the controls, keeping her in a vulnerable position. [2]

Notes[]
- The stairlift seen in Annabelle: Creation was built by Samuel Mullins for his injured wife, Esther. However, although Esther did suffer from a severe disfigurement, there is nothing to indicate that her mobility was impaired.
